Renting a Dumpster for the First Time
There’s a lot you should know when renting a dumpster for the first time.
Dumpsters are essential in our environment. Without them, our environment is bound to be littered with all kinds of waste. Dumpsters are for waste removal, with containers designed to be brought and taken by a special vehicle for disposal.
Dumpsters are made available by some companies who put them up for rent. For a first-time dumpster renter, here are a few things to know about dumpsters:
Types of Dumpsters
Dumpsters are designed in various types to accommodate the multiple needs of the customers.
Roll-off dumpsters
These are the type that is rented temporarily by contractors or homeowners. They are delivered to you on your job site or to your home and rolled off to be placed at your desired location.
Roll-off dumpsters have swinging doors on one side, which allows you to move heavy items to the dumpsters. It also has wheels or rollers on the bottom, which allows it to be easily rolled out of the delivering trucks, moved to your desired location, and also rolled back to the truck for the pick.

Renting a Dumpster for Commercial Use
This, unlike the roll-off dumpster, is not rented temporarily. It is a permanent dumpster used majorly by businesses.
See construction dumpster rental options.
Commercial dumpsters are regularly emptied for some time. They are usually smaller than roll-off dumpsters and are about 2-8 cubic Yards with a lid over them.
Renting a Dumpster for Construction
This is ideal for large home clean-up jobs, garage clean-up, or an attic. Construction dumpsters are initially used for construction debris removal, and some call them temporary roll-off dumpsters. However, they now serve more than that purpose. Projects such as remodeling or large yard waste removal are ideal for construction dumpsters. The construction holds about ten cubic yards to 40 cubic yards of debris.
Another thing to consider in renting a dumpster is the size.
Dumpsters come in different sizes and are measured in cubic yards; this implies the volume of waste or debris they can hold. They come in 10 yards, 20 yards, 30 yards, and 40 yards.
- A 10-yard container can be used for a small basement, attic, small kitchen or bathroom job, garage, and apparatus such as 300 to 400 sq ft deck removal.
- 15-20-yard containers can be used to remove small to medium basement, and large flooring about 300-400 sq ft deck removal.
- 30-40-yard containers can be used to remove medium to large amounts of debris, demolition, cardboard or paper, garage demolition, office building cleanout, and new home construction wastes.
Pricing When Renting a Dumpster
The pricing for dumpster renting is determined by a couple of factors such as size, the debris type, and weight of debris.
Size
The more significant the size, the higher the price. However, the cost of two
10-yard dumpsters is higher than a
20-yard dumpster delivered to you. That’s why it is advisable to go for the larger size when you’re not sure of the size of the waste.
Debris type
The type of debris you plan to dispose of also determines the rental charge.
The weight of the debris
Simply put, the higher the weight, the higher the charges. Also, you should keep in mind that you should not exceed the weight limit. if you do, you’ll attract extra charges.
